Colyton Skittle League was established in 1949 in Colyton, East Devon. It began with just 8 teams competing during the first season - in contrast, there are 66 teams playing in 2018/19. Skittles is still played in the traditional way, on both 9-pin and 10-pin alleys, using either wooden or rubber balls. Hardworking stickers-up (referred t
Colyton Skittle League was established in 1949 in Colyton, East Devon. It began with just 8 teams competing during the first season - in contrast, there are 66 teams playing in 2018/19. Skittles is still played in the traditional way, on both 9-pin and 10-pin alleys, using either wooden or rubber balls. Hardworking stickers-up (referred to as "setters-up" in the original rules) return the balls and replace the pins which have been knocked down.
The League currently runs 5 divisions of mixed teams within a 10 mile radius of Colyton.In addition, it also organises the Knock Out Cup, the Tony Hawkins Memorial Knocked-Out Cup, the Mike Sansom Nomination Trophy, the Colcombe Castle Trophy Captains Cup, the singles trophy and the Mike Hussey Memorial Pairs Cup Competition. Highest score cups are also awarded to the man and woman who score the highest score in an away league match over the course of the season.
